Adventure-themed Film Festival Coming to Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH, March 2, 2023 — Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour is making a stop in the Seacoast as a fundraiser for Greater Seacoast Community Health. Join Goodwin Community Health, Families First Health & Support Center, and Lilac City Pediatrics when the Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour brings some of the world’s best mountain sport, culture, and environmental films to Portsmouth at The Music Hall on March 9.

The one-night-only Portsmouth stop of the festival will take attendees on an adventure where they can experience a Canadian woman who took up mountain biking at the age of 45, a team of spring free-skiers in Alta, Utah, and a 15-year-old from New York City who craves a quiet place. The evening will feature a unique lineup of films that seek to inspire through stories of adventure, discovery and exploration in the outdoors. Doors open at 6 p.m. and films begin at 7 p.m.

Event proceeds assist local individuals and families in accessing quality, affordable primary and preventive health care services through Goodwin Community Health in Somersworth, Families First Health & Support Center in Portsmouth, and Lilac City Pediatrics at both locations.

The festival will screen eight different films— including short, four-to-five minute films interspersed with a longer, 35-plus-minute feature.

The mission of Greater Seacoast Community Health is sponsored in part by Bank of New Hampshire, Digital Prospectors, Novocure, Eastern Bank, Kennebunk Savings, Liberty Mutual Insurance, Piscataqua Savings Bank, Clark Insurance, Core Physicians, NH Healthy Families, Palmer Gas & Oil, CGI Employee Benefits Group, D.F. About the Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour: Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour was born from Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival which began in Banff, Alberta. In 1976 a tight-knit group of climbers and outdoor enthusiasts conceived The Banff Festival of Mountaineering Films. This was one-day gathering that became the renowned international Festival it is today. Over 30 years ago, Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival began an outreach program to bring the Festival to other communities. This has become known as Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour. Like the first festival in Banff, the tour began small – three cities across Canada. Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour now reaches over 40 countries and brings mountain films to an audience of over 550,000 worldwide in approximately 550 locations.

About Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity: Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity is a learning organization built upon an extraordinary legacy of excellence in artistic and creative development. What started as a single course in drama has grown to become the global organization leading in arts, culture and creativity across dozens of disciplines. From our home in the stunning Canadian Rocky Mountains, Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity aims to inspire everyone who attends our campus – artists, leaders, and thinkers – to unleash their creative potential.
